The Edo State Ministry of Local Government, Community, and Chieftaincy Affairs serves as the focal point for promoting sustainable development, effective governance, and cultural preservation within Edo State’s diverse local communities. Established to ensure the well-being and prosperity of all residents, we work tirelessly to empower local leaders, engage communities, and uphold traditional values.
The Ministry started as a Directorate, domiciled at the Government House, and had four departments, headed by a Secretary. It was charged with the responsibility of supervising and monitoring the activities of the eighteen (18) LGAs and also rendered progressive reports on their project execution and achievements to the State Government. On 21st March 2003, the Directorate was upgraded to a full-fledged Ministry by the former Governor of Edo State, Chief (Dr.) Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion, and was known as the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, with the appointment of an Honourable Commissioner to oversee the affairs of the Ministry.
